Glastonbury Festival!

We’re practically on Glastonbury’s doorstep (well not really! But we can cycle there with a bit of effort!) and we love to go every year. Of course we can’t go without our cameras and so here’s a small selection of shots from this year’s festival.

Penni and Brandon’s beautiful wedding at Priston Mill near Bath

Wedding and festival season is in full swing, so we’ve neglected our blogging! Trying to catch up a bit now, and here is the wonderful wedding of Penni and Brandon from April earlier this year! Penni and Brandon chose the gorgeous Priston Mill for their full day, which is a dedicated wedding venue with absolutely lovely gardens with a very pretty river running through.
As always, we shared a small set of around 50 pictures a few days after the wedding, followed by a full set in Mono and a full set in Colour a few weeks later. Here’s a small sample of Penni and Brandon’s day!

Clevedon Hall by the sea - a brilliant fun Wedding

This was the first time we’d been asked to photograph at Clevedon Hall, which is an amazing place just off the sea front with amazing gardens and a stately home in an imposing position with a view overlooking them. Aly and Carl live just south of Bristol in stunning countryside and found this venue nearby.
We met Aly and Carl some time before the wedding and arranged where we needed to be on the big day - Em went to be with Aly during the wedding preparations, held in one of the grand rooms in the Hall, while I went to meet Carl in a local pub just on the sea front by the venue. As you can see from the following set of photos, we all had a great day and we stayed until everyone was worn out, capturing the whole day for the lovely couple.

Weddding Kit - What's in our bags?

Apart from cameras and lenses, batteries and memory cards, over the years we’ve found that there’s a bunch of other things that come in very handy for different parts of the day.

Penknife

We see SO many new suits and sometimes people don’t realise that the pockets will be sewn up and need a little sharp knife to open! Also, the tails of many jackets have a little cross stitch on them to keep them neat…this is intended to be removed when you wear them! If you don’t, it’s pretty obvious you’re not a suit wearer! (Who is these days?)

Simple Sewing Kit

Accidents happen sometimes! Although I’m no tailor, we can perhaps patch up a small rip if needs be!

Crochet Hooks

Here’s a little secret weapon for those tricky buttons on the back of a wedding dress! These can be a life saver when we’re in a hurry and the dress just isn’t behaving!

Other bits and bobs

Safety Pins

Plasters

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen - we can’t dispense these as we’re not chemists, but if you have a headache we could leave one laying around for you!

Hair Grips

Scissors

The Allergies at Bristol Trinity Centre!

Once again, the amazing group The Allergies are on tour and they got in touch with Em to see if we’d like take some more photos of their gig in Bristol...of course we said yes please!
This time they were performing at The Trinity Centre in Bristol which is a fabulous converted church with a great atmosphere. Everyone had an amazing time - I think The Allergies are one of the only bands that get people dancing so much that the crowd were STILL dancing well after their set had finished and they were signing albums at the merch stand!

Bramall Hall Wedding with Kyal and Holly

Bramall hall is a beautiful, historic house located in the heart of the northern city of Preston, England. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and picturesque setting, Bramall Hall is a hidden gem that is well worth a visit for anyone interested in English heritage and architecture.

The history of Bramall Hall dates back to the 14th century, when it was originally built as a medieval manor house. Over the centuries, the building underwent several additions and renovations, and today, it stands as a stunning example of Tudor-style architecture. The house is particularly notable for its amazing timber-framed great hall, which is one of the finest examples of its kind in the country.

Kyal and Holly live locally and Holly was staying at The Village Hotel in Cheadle where Em was excited to discover Dave Masterman from the Eli’s and John podcast lives!

Woz went to meet Kyal at their house to get some prep shots, while Em met Holly and Co at the hotel.

Beautiful Wedding at Wells & Glastonbury

Rachael and Ali were married at the beautiful church of St Thomas’ in Wells last October in front of their family and friends. Now the weather man had predicted rain all day but the gods must of been smiling on these two as it hardly rained at all and the sun shone for them over the course of their day. After their ceremony I went to the Bishops Palace in Wells to take some photos of the happy couple in the grounds of this stunning venue. The Bishops Palace holds a very special place for Rachael in particular so it was only right to take some photos of them in one of her favourite places.

After Bishops Palace, we all headed off to Glastonbury Weddings And Events - a beautiful 18th century Grade II listed deconsecrated village church with views of Glastonbury Tor from the Somerset Levels. The venue is truly something to see, sat out on its own with stunning views all round.

As you can see from the photographs, it was an absolutely lovely day and the couple looked so happy!

Cornwall Wedding Photography - At Beautiful Carbis Bay!

Looking out of the window at the winter rain, this wedding seems like an age ago, but looking at this set from the lovely Dan and Chantel’s wedding in beautiful sunny Cornwall brings back all the feelings of the sun on our backs and sand (and seawater!) under our shoes!

Their whole wedding was held at Carbis Bay Hotel which is a stunning venue right on the beautiful beach of Carbis Bay near St Ives.

Located on the picturesque south coast of England, Carbis Bay Hotel is a gorgeous destination for travellers seeking a luxurious getaway. Situated just a short walk from the breathtaking Carbis Bay Beach, this hotel offers amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean and St Ives Bay.

The hotel itself is a historic building that has been beautifully renovated to offer guests the ultimate in comfort and style.

Chantel was getting ready in one of their lodges which overlooks the sea and yet is totally private. Each has its own private garden, which was a bonus for getting some pictures of the bridal party before we headed to the ceremony, which was being held in a secluded part of the hotel which also overlooks the sea (as does just about every part of the hotel!)

We were so lucky as the previous day had been extremely wet and overcast but on the day of their wedding the clouds vanished and the weather was beautiful.

After the ceremony we headed onto the beach for some hilarious photos as the wedding party really weren’t paying enough attention to the incoming tide! Everyone was laughing their heads off and it made for a great set of photos.

I have to say that both the venue and the couple were amazing and we felt extremely privileged to have been able to photograph their day!

Roman Baths Evening Wedding

The Roman Baths are an historic site dating back over 2000 years situated in the beautiful city of Royal Bath, Somerset. The city itself is absolutely stunning, with history and lovely shops everywhere you look…we love to visit Bath as much as possible as it’s not far from where we live, surprisingly though I’d (Woz) never been into the actual Baths themselves. As a wedding venue the Roman Baths just oozes ambience and atmosphere - it’s an incredible place to consider getting married and we felt really privileged to photograph Rob and Leala’s intimate wedding.

When Leala got in touch to ask us to photograph their ceremony some time ago now, I was quite worried it was going to be very dark during the service, and this proved to be the case, but oh my! The light was gorgeous! The setting of their wedding was like a painting, and while our options as photographers were limited - it’s fairly hard to move around without the possibility of falling into the large bath of water itself and with the limited angles - I think we managed to make some breathtaking pictures, which will look stunning in a frame!

Cheddar Wedding & Mendip Spring Golf Club with Nikki and Eden

We first met the lovely Nikki and Eden on a very busy Easter Bank holiday in the centre of Cheddar. It was probably THE busiest day in Cheddar last year! After eventually finding somewhere to park (it took a while!) we finally met up in a cafe to natter over a bite to eat and drink. We took a very short stroll to take a few pre wedding pics which was great fun especially as we were trying to talk whilst climbing what seemed like a cliff face! It was a really lovely opportunity to put our couple at ease before their wedding day.

Nikki and Eden’s wedding day was held on a beautiful day in August. Woz went to spend the morning with the lads getting ready at the Mendip Spring Golf Club whilst I was with the girls (and not forgetting Nikki’s dad!) back at her parent’s house in Cheddar. There was something very lovely about spending the morning in Nikki’s childhood home - it was ever so relaxed with lots of tea drinking and chatting whilst Nikki’s dad gathered the final flower touches for the table decorations from the garden. Their ceremony was held at the Cheddar Methodist church…the congregation absolutely sung their hearts out which sent shivers down our spine!

The evening was spent at Mendip Spring Golf Club, which included an hilarious ride in a golf cart for the bride and groom and some slightly annoyed golfers!!

A beautiful Somerset village wedding in Coleford

Back in the summer we went to Coleford for Emily and Les’ wedding. There’s nothing quite like a village wedding and this one was just perfect!

Emily got ready in her lovely cottage which is a very short walk from the local village church while Les was the other side of the village getting ready with friends.

The whole community came together to celebrate their day - the church was absolutely rammed full and the local pub where they held their reception and evening celebrations was jumping!

We’d highly recommend their band, Open Road, who played a fantastic selection of music and really kept the atmosphere alive right to the end!

Upton Barn and Walled Garden Wedding with Jess and Paul

We were back at the beautiful venue, Upton Barn and Gardens in Devon, again recently and my how it’s changed! They’ve really taken advantage of the lock down to upgrade just about everything about the venue, along with adding an absolutely stunning area for Bridal Prep! This area is so light and airy, it’s a make up artist (and photographer’s!) dream!
We love Upton Barn - the staff are lovely and there’s so many different areas for guests to explore.

We were there for Jess and Paul’s wedding, who are totally lovely and who’s guests are definitely the loudest we’ve ever worked with! At some points during the Breakfast we could have done with earplugs!

Bristol Wedding Photographers - Amazing Day with Martin & Marisa!

Woohoo! Woz and I had the real privilege to photograph Martin and Marisa’s beautiful and super duper cool wedding day in Bristol! These two were just meant to be together, as you can see they just totally oozed fun, colourful and wicked vibes. Following their ceremony at Bristol Registry office and the exchanging of their own beautifully written vows everybody hopped onto The Flower of Bristol for a wonderful boat trip around the city harbour and a yummy afternoon tea. I too had my sea legs on so I joined them for a wee while. Once back on land all ascended up to Mud Dock for their reception.

Their chosen venue of Mud Dock is a fantastic quirky and iconic old Harbourside building in the centre of Bristol which has fantastic views over the harbour from the terrace. I can honestly say the dance floor was never empty and all danced the night away! Some wicked dance moves were definitely on show! Such an amazing wedding day for a stunning couple!

Somerset Wedding Photography at Moorlinch on a very hot day

Olivia and James chose to get married in my local church where I grew up, so I was so happy that they chose us to photograph the day for them! And what a day! It was one of the hottest days of the year and as you can see from the selection of photographs here, the day couldn’t have gone better! The sun shone and everyone was smiling all day!
In the evening, the dancing started and thankfully it cooled down a bit because everyone was boogying like mad!

PhotOctober...photo a day for October!

We’ve set ourselves a task! We’re going to take a photo a day for October and publish it here…I’ve done this before a few times and know it can be a tricky thing to stick to…so fingers crossed we make it!

Weston Super Mare Pier Wedding!

When Carley and Chris first got in touch and told us that they were getting married on the Weston Super Mare Pier, we were so excited! This was a total first for us and we honestly couldn’t wait! Carley is a total sweetheart and we were very much welcomed into their fold like family.

There were so many highlights from the day from the boys collecting the many doughnuts from Greggs and carting them all along the pier to Carley absolutely rocking it down the aisle with the biggest, brightest smile. The wedding was so much fun from start to finish, it completely captured everything that Carley and Chris are about and the Pier was the perfect place for them to be married. After their ceremony, all the guests (and us!) had the opportunity to go on all the rides and one of Woz’s favourites, the 2p slot machines!

As you can see from the photos, it was amazing! It was such a privilege to have witnessed and photographed Carley and Chris’s wedding day!

A busy kitchen!

We take inspiration from all sorts of photographers and one that I love is Bob Carlos Clarke, who produced some absolutely amazing work in the kitchen of the then youthful Marco Pierre White.

The kitchens we see during the weddings we attend are in no way as frantic and high pressure as those shown in White Heat! But It’s actually rare that we’re allowed to go in and photograph as there’s often no room for a roaming photographer or two. On this occasion, the caterers invited us in and we jumped at the chance!

The Advantages of Having Two Photographers

There are some situations where having two photographers means it’s simply possible to tell more of the story of your day. During the ceremony, one of us will generally be somewhere discrete at the front, while the other will be with the bride at the back. We don’t get in anyone’s way, but we’re able to capture things from more angles and tell the story from multiple perspectives. During prep, this lets us cover both the bride and the groom getting ready. Here’s a couple of example sequences!

Berwick Lodge wedding with Rachael and Josh

As soon as I received the initial email from Rachael and Josh asking us to be their wedding photographers I knew straightaway they were going to be amazing to work with. Over the months of exchanging messages and discussing ‘What’s worth watching on Netflix these days’ and ‘The problems with sitting in front rows of comedy shows’ as well as wedding planning, we built up a lovely friendship and their wedding day arrived on the most gorgeous sunny August day!

And WOW what a day it was, surrounded by many of their lovely friends and family, Rachael and Josh tied the knot at the beautiful venue Berwick Lodge.

We are so chuffed to have been asked to capture their truly amazing day and we loved being a part of it. Woz and I have been accepted into the ‘Rachael and Josh fold’ and we couldn’t be happier! I think you’ll all agree they looked absolutely gorgeous…

Here are a SMALL selection of their pics! Em & Woz x
